Car Delivery or Airport Pickup: Which One Fits Your Trip

Most rental advice assumes you will walk up to a counter. Two of the four ways to get a vehicle from us do not involve one at all, and choosing between them is genuinely worth two minutes — not because one is better, but because they fail in different ways when the trip changes.

Here is the short version: airport pickup wins when your arrival time is the fixed point, and delivery wins when your address is. Everything below is that sentence with the detail filled in.

What each one costs

Cost is the first thing people expect to differ, and on two of the four options it does not differ at all.

• SAT airport — free, both ways. There is no airport surcharge on top.
• Our office, inside opening hours — free. You come to the vehicle instead.
• On base — $50 for the round trip, to the community at any of the 5 installations we serve.
• A home, hotel or workplace — quoted with your booking from distance and the pickup time, and you have the figure before you commit.

So for a lot of trips the honest answer is that the choice is not financial. It is about which fixed point your day is built around.

When airport pickup is the right call

Pick the airport when the flight is the thing you cannot move. You land, you walk to the San Antonio International Airport long-term parking garage, and the vehicle is there. At the end of the trip it goes back to the same place, which means your last morning has one variable in it instead of two.

It is also the better answer when you do not yet know where you are staying, or when the answer is "three places" — a hand-over point that does not depend on your itinerary is worth a lot on a trip that is still moving.

When delivery is the right call

Pick delivery when the address is the fixed point — you are already in San Antonio, or you are arriving by some other means, or the reason you need a vehicle is precisely that you have no way to get to one. That last case is more common than it sounds: a car in the shop, a household mid-move, a vehicle that has gone onto a transporter.

Delivery also wins when the person collecting is not the person travelling. A vehicle at the address is a vehicle anybody named on the agreement can walk out to, which a hand-over at a terminal is not.

The notice each one needs

This is where the two genuinely differ, and it is the detail most likely to catch somebody out. The airport garage and the on-base round trip both need 24 hours' notice. That is not a general booking cutoff — it is the notice those two fixed arrangements need in order to happen at all.

Collecting from the office needs no notice beyond the booking itself, inside opening hours. A delivery to an address is agreed with you when you book, along with the figure.

And the return, which is the half people forget

The return does not have to mirror the collection. A delivered vehicle can be collected from you; a vehicle you picked up at the office can be dropped somewhere else by arrangement. What it cannot be is decided on the day — the hour and the place are both agreed while you are booking.

We are open Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. An after-hours drop-off is available on request, which is the answer for an early flight — ask for it when you book rather than the night before.
